Benzophenone 3
Benzophenone 3, also known as oxybenzone, is a member of a family of similar molecules which are generally employed as UV absorbers. Benzophenones are most often found in sunscreens as oxybenzone but can be found in personal care products like nail polishes, shampoos, hair sprays, and cosmetics. Health Canada allows oxybenzone for cosmetic use up to 6%.
Oxybenzone (Benzophenone 3) provides a broad-spectrum ultraviolet coverage which includes UVB and short-wave UVA rays with an absorption profile spanning from 270 to 350.
It is also used in plastics as an ultraviolet light absorber and in synthetic resins as a stabilizer.
